The majority of my friends who work on sets (grips, lighting, designers) are all looking for short-term, bill-paying work like waiting tables or bar tending. It's not just those folks either some writers don't get paid enough when work is steady to support themselves through the strike. The whole Hollywood community has essentially banded together to support this effort. Not just those actors who are recording the speechless videos or growing strike beards, but diner owners are pitching in to support.
